Install an APK on Android Without Disabling Device Protection

Android treats apps from outside Google Play as unknown-source installations. Modern versions do not require one global switch; permission is granted to the specific app that opens the APK, such as Chrome or Files.

Grant only the source you used

When Android blocks the installer, tap Settings and allow the current source. Return to the installer rather than browsing for another copy of the file.

Review before tapping Install

Check the app name and the permissions shown by Android. A normal installation does not require you to disable Play Protect, share a password, or provide payment details on this website.

Remove the permission afterwards

Go to Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps. Select Chrome or Files and switch the permission off if it remains enabled.

Handle update errors carefully
